This project marks a significant milestone for Protea Turf Equipment, uniting South African manufacturing excellence with specialized engineering and dedicated craftsmanship. Our machinery is now entrusted with the maintenance of the country’s most prestigious cricket surfaces.
From the initial assembly at our factory in Knights, Germiston, to final delivery at each stadium, every stage of this project required meticulous planning, precision, and unwavering attention to detail.

THE RIGHT MACHINES FOR THE JOB
Cricket pitches are precision playing surfaces. Maintaining them requires more than simply cutting grass.
Groundskeepers must manage cutting height, turf density, thatch levels, and surface conditions to maintain the optimal presentation of the playing field, employing specialized maintenance techniques throughout the year.
This is where the Protea range offers real versatility.
SUPERCUT
Precision cylinder mowing for professional cricket surfaces
The Protea Supercut range is designed for specialist turf applications where a precise, high-quality cut is essential.
The SC range is suitable for applications including cricket pitches, golf greens, tennis courts and bowling greens, making it a natural fit for professional sporting environments.
With its cylinder cutting system and interchangeable reel options, the Supercut can be adapted to suit different turf-maintenance requirements.
Why it works for cricket
Cricket surfaces demand consistency. The Supercut provides groundsmen with the ability to achieve a precise cut while also offering the flexibility to change the machine’s configuration according to the maintenance task.
Interchangeable reels can provide options for grooming, scarifying, verticutting and sweeping, extending the usefulness of the machine well beyond conventional mowing.

THE SVG RANGE
Versatility beyond mowing
The SVG500 and SVG760 are designed to give turf professionals additional tools for specialist turf maintenance.
The SVG range can be fitted with interchangeable reels, including Groomer, Verticut, Scarifier and Pin-Type Scarifier options.
That versatility is particularly valuable on cricket grounds, where turf maintenance changes according to the condition of the grass and the requirements of the playing surface.
Grooming
Regular grooming can assist with managing the turf and maintaining a consistent surface.
Verticutting
Verticutting provides a method of working vertically through the turf to help manage excessive growth and improve the structure of the sward.
Scarifying
Scarification can be used when more aggressive removal of unwanted organic material and excess growth is required.
The SVG500, with its compact working width, is particularly suited to specialist areas and smaller cricket pitches, while the SVG760 provides a larger working format where increased coverage is required.
Together, the SVG machines provide groundsmen with a flexible range of tools that can complement their regular mowing programme.
SI GREENS
Precision where it matters most
The Protea SI Greens range is another important part of our specialist turf-care offering.
Designed for precision mowing of fine turf, the SI Greens machines are available in different working widths and are well suited to applications such as golf greens and cricket pitches.
Their cylinder mowing configuration allows groundsmen to make fine adjustments to the height of cut while producing the close, consistent finish associated with cylinder mowing.

Once each machine had been assembled, inspected and prepared, it needed to be packaged securely for its journey to stadiums across the country.
We are proud to work with Cargo Pack, our trusted packaging partner, whose support helped ensure that the equipment was carefully protected and prepared for transport.
Packaging is an important part of any large-scale delivery. It helps safeguard the machinery during handling, loading and transit, while ensuring that each item arrives in the condition in which it left our facility.
From the factory floor to the loading area, Cargo Pack played an important role in helping us prepare the equipment for its journey.

The logistics behind the project
Building the machines was only one part of the project.
With 36 machines and associated equipment destined for cricket stadiums across South Africa, coordinating the logistics required careful planning.
Each machine had to be:
BUILT → INSPECTED → PREPARED → PACKAGED → LOADED → DELIVERED
The equipment then needed to make its way to its respective stadium, with each destination carefully coordinated to ensure the correct machinery arrived where it was required.
This is where our trusted freight and logistics partner, Concargo, played an important role.
Concargo’s freight and logistics support enables us to coordinate equipment deliveries from our Germiston factory to cricket venues nationwide.
It was a significant logistical operation — but one that allowed us to see the project through from manufacturing to delivery, with the support of trusted partners at every stage.

There is something particularly rewarding about seeing a machine leave our factory knowing exactly where it is going and what it is going to be used for.
For this project, that destination was some of South Africa’s most important cricket stadiums.
The machines were manufactured here in South Africa, by people who understand the demands of professional turf care, carefully packaged with the support of Cargo Pack and transported with the assistance of Concargo.
They are now being put to work maintaining the surfaces where the game is played.
